Great news for advocates of healthier living! The Personal Health Investment Today (PHIT) Act, or key provisions similar to it, has recently seen significant movement in Congress.
What's Happening Now:
Why the PHIT Act Matters:
The PHIT Act aims to incentivize physical activity and healthy living by making fitness expenses tax-deductible or eligible for pre-tax savings. Proponents argue that by lowering the financial barrier to participation in sports and fitness, it can:
While the journey through Congress can be long and complex, the recent House action represents a significant leap forward for the PHIT Act. The fitness and health industry, along with many bipartisan members of Congress, are pushing hard to see these important provisions become law.
We'll continue to keep you updated on the progress of this vital legislation!
March 26, 2025 - WASHINGTON — U.S. Sens. John Thune (R-S.D.), Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), and U.S. Reps. Mike Kelly (R-Pa.) and Jimmy Panetta (D-Calif.) today reintroduced the Personal Health Investment Today (PHIT) Act. This bipartisan legislation would encourage physical activity and incentivize healthier living by allowing Americans to use a portion of the money saved in their pre-tax health savings account (HSA) and flexible spending account (FSA) toward qualified sports and fitness purchases, such as gym memberships, fitness equipment, and youth sports league fees.
What types of training do you offer? I specialize in three main areas: cycling-focused training (both indoor and outdoor), strength training for all levels, and tailored fitness programs for seniors. I offer these through in-person sessions, a combination of in-person and remote support (hybrid), and fully remote training plans.
What are the benefits of working with a personal trainer? A personal trainer can provide a customized workout plan tailored to your specific goals and needs, ensure proper form to prevent injuries, offer motivation and accountability, and help you break through plateaus to achieve better results.
What are your qualifications and experience? I am certified by the American College of Sports Medicine, hold a BAS in Sports Management, and have 50 years of experience in fitness, working with individuals of diverse ages and fitness levels. I have expertise in cycling training, strength conditioning, and designing safe and effective programs for seniors.
What is the difference between in-person, hybrid, and remote training?
How do I know which type of training is right for me? We can discuss your goals, lifestyle, schedule, and preferences during a consultation to determine the most suitable training format for you.
What does your cycling training involve? My cycling training programs can include indoor cycling workouts (on a stationary bike), outdoor ride planning and guidance, techniques to improve pedaling efficiency, hill climbing strategies, sprint training, and endurance building. I can also help with bike setup and basic maintenance tips. My Pedalgogy classes help you get the most from your hours on the road or trail.
Do I need my own bike for cycling training? For in-person outdoor cycling training, yes, you will need your own bike. For indoor cycling, you will need access to a stationary bike. We can discuss options based on your chosen training plan. I am the founder of Golden Ratio Cycling, wrote the eponymous book, and developed the Pedalgogy system to teach cycling skills.
Can you help me train for a specific cycling event? Absolutely! Whether it's a local race, a long-distance ride, or a charity event, I can create a tailored training plan to help you prepare and achieve your goals.
What kind of strength training do you offer? I offer strength training programs using various methods, including bodyweight exercises, free weights (dumbbells, barbells), resistance bands, TRX, and machine-based exercises. Programs are designed to improve muscular strength, endurance, and overall functional fitness. I have a powerlifting background, trained at Spartan, Olympus, Golds and West Side Barbell.
Do I need to have access to a gym for strength training? Not necessarily. I can design effective strength training programs that can be done at home with minimal equipment, especially for remote and hybrid clients. For in-person sessions, we may utilize a gym setting depending on your preferences and goals.
Will strength training make me bulky? This is a common concern, especially for women. Strength training, when done correctly and with a focus on appropriate rep ranges and weight, can help build lean muscle mass, improve metabolism, and enhance overall physique without necessarily leading to bulkiness. We will discuss your specific goals and tailor the program accordingly.
What considerations do you take into account for senior fitness? Safety and functionality are paramount. I focus on exercises that improve balance, mobility, strength for daily activities, and cardiovascular health, while considering any pre-existing conditions or limitations. Programs are designed to be low-impact and adaptable to individual needs.
Is it too late for me to start exercising as a senior? It's never too late to start! Regular physical activity offers significant benefits at any age, including improved energy levels, reduced risk of falls, better bone density, and enhanced cognitive function. I can create a safe and effective program tailored to your current fitness level.
Can you help with specific conditions like arthritis or osteoporosis? I have experience working with seniors with various conditions and can design exercise programs that are safe and beneficial. However, I always recommend consulting with your doctor before starting any new exercise program, and I may collaborate with your healthcare provider to ensure the best approach.
What are your rates? My rates vary depending on the type of training (in-person, hybrid, remote), the frequency and duration of sessions, and the behavioral modification strategy needed. Please contact me for a details and to discuss package options.
Do you offer package deals or discounts? Yes, I offer various package options for ongoing training. We can discuss these during your consultation.
What is your cancellation policy? I typically require 24 hours' notice for cancellations or rescheduling of in-person sessions. However, life does have emergencies, and we can handle them as they come. Different policies may apply to remote training plans. Details will be outlined in our agreement.
What forms of payment do you accept? I accept credit cards, PayPal, online transfers, and checks.
Do you offer a free consultation? No, I offer initial consultations to discuss your fitness goals, answer your questions, and see if we are a good fit. If we are, the modest fee is credited to your program when you start.
How do I schedule a consultation? You can contact me at (321)-362-2417, titusvillepersonaltraining@gmail.com, or through our bookings section below.
What can I expect during the initial consultation? During the consultation, we will discuss your fitness history, current activity levels, goals, any injuries or limitations, and your preferences for training style and format. This will help me understand your needs and how I can best support you.
